WORCESTER - Susan "Sue" Eleanor (Haley) Wilson, 67, died Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at UMass Memorial – University Campus
Susan was born October 30, 1953 in Rochester, New York and lived in Scottsville, New York until she was fourteen, when her family moved to Massachusetts. She attended Acton-Boxboro Regional High School before attending college. Her parents were Eleanor Quinlan Haley and Robert William Haley, both of Rochester.
Susan received her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education in 1975 from Salem State College, Salem, Massachusetts, and her Master's degree in Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1993. Susan worked as a Reading Specialist in Boston, Belmont and Essex and on the island of Maui for many years. Her specialty was helping learning disabled students learn to read. Susan's passion was art, and she studied with several painters in New England and Hawaii before retiring to Worcester at age 62.
Susan loved to travel, and visited Europe, Alaska, Colorado and Tennessee, and lived for two years in San Diego. At age 50, Susan moved to Maui, Hawaii, sight unseen, and spent 12 years teaching, snorkeling and painting there. From Maui, she visited several other Hawaiian islands.
Susan was a long-term friend of Bill W.
She leaves her beloved cat Eli Wilson.
Susan's life will be celebrated on Saturday May 28, 2022 at 1 pm at Unitarian Universalist Church of Worcester 90 Holden St Worcester, MA 01606.. Her remains will be buried at sea in a private ceremony in Hawaii. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ninth Life Cat Rescue Center, P.O. Box 476, Makawao, Hawaii 96768 (ninthliferescue.org).
