WORCESTER – Robert “ Bobby” Edward Hughes, 63, of Worcester, died Thursday, April 20, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by family.
His wife of 23 years, Judith A. (Benson) Hughes, died in 2005. He leaves a son, Corey E. Hughes of Worcester, a grandson, John Hughes, who was the love of his life; a brother Donald Hughes and his wife Linda of Petersham; two sisters, Deborah Dugan and her husband Al of Winchendon, and Cheryl DiBenedetto and Brian Fontaine of Worcester. His son Justin Hughes died in April 2022. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Ronald Hughes, and a sister Carol (Hughes) Murray. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Hughie E. and Dorothy L. (Freeland) Hughes. He graduated from Burncoat High School.
The Jeanette family were best friends! Rose Jeanette took very good care of Bobby along with Tom Jeanette. They were always there for him, drove Bobby to dialysis 3 times a week. Jimbo Jeanette (previously deceased) was Bobby's best friend. Lorraine Jeanette cleaned his house until Rose took over.
Robert worked at Omni Services for 20 years. He retired due to health problems. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Worcester. He enjoyed most of all being with his grandson John and family. Family meant the world to him. He loved going out to eat whenever possible. Bobby enjoyed gardening ( which Al and Donny helped him with).
Calling hours are Thursday, April 27 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester, followed by prayers at 6:00 pm. Burial will be private.
