Rita Marie Gonya

MILLBURY – Rita M. Gonya, 92, of Millbury, died Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Life Care Center of Auburn.

She leaves several cousins especially Leo and Janet Pepin of Leicester, her very special neighbors Richard Hamilton and Cheri Heino, and her caretaker Nancy.  Rita was predeceased by her brother Albert R. Gonya.  She was born in Worcester, daughter of William L. and Delina E. (Mathieu) Gonya.  She graduated from Worcester Girls’ Trade School and attended Quinsigamond Community College.

Rita was a bookkeeper for many years at Denholm in Worcester, before becoming a receptionist and bookkeeper at Millbury Credit Union.  She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Millbury, where she was a CYC advisor and a former member of the Children of Mary.  She enjoyed travelling, gardening, and crafting.  She loved being surrounded by children.  Rita had an astute mind even at the age of 92.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 12 Waters St, Millbury.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Leicester.  There are no calling hours.  Arrangements are in the care of Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester and Turgeon Funeral Home, Millbury.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude.
