Phyllis J. (Adams) King

SHREWSBURY – Phyllis J. (Adams) King, 85, of Shrewsbury, died peacefully at Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 after a brief illness, with her brother-in-law Jim by her side.

Her husband of 58 years, Thomas F. King, Jr, died in May, 2013.    She leaves a brother-in-law, James P. King and his wife Valerie of Leicester; five sisters-in-law, MaryEllen Griffin and her husband James of Scituate, Agnes Doyle of Plymouth, Kathleen Madaus of Falmouth, Sarah Jane Carney and her husband Robert of Falmouth, and Elizabeth Miller of Dennis, MA and Florida; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and thirteen Godchildren. She was predeceased by her two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Jerry Ouellette and Doris and John Bastille, and Thom’s sisters Phyllis Dykas and Anne-Marie Robertson.  She was born in Worcester, daughter of Leo and Clara (Case) Adams of Shrewsbury. 

Phyllis graduated from Shrewsbury High School and Framingham State College.  She was a high school Home Economics teacher at Shrewsbury High for many years.  She enjoyed vacationing, especially her time spent RV camping in Maine, the Great Lakes and on Cape Cod with Thom.  She also loved maintaining her gardens and cooking.  She was a caring, truthful, considerate, elegant woman. 

Phyllis's family would like to thank the staff of 23 South at St Vincent's Hospital and the caregivers at Rose Monahan Hospice for their devoted care.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave., Worcester, with a Mass at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury.  Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Calling hours are Monday, October 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St, Shrewsbury, MA 01545 or to the charity of one's choice.
