Peter Starbird Obituary

SOUTHBOROUGH - Peter T. Starbird, 74, of Southborough and Arundel, Maine, formerly of Rochdale, died Tuesday, February 27, 2024 after a sudden illness, surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves his wife of 44 years, Nancy J. (Simoncini) Starbird; two daughters, Paige Dauderis and her husband Keith of Ashland, and Abby Pomerleau and her husband Edward of Eliot, Maine; brothers-in-law Alan Simoncini and his wife Suzanne of Mattapoisett and Mark Simoncini and his wife Brenda of Blackstone.  Peter was affectionately known as Popi to his beloved grandson Cole.  He also leaves many nieces and a nephew.  He was born in Worcester, son of Richard G. and Hilda (Watts) Starbird.  He graduated from Westborough High School and Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.

Peter was a mechanical engineer by trade, with a true passion and appreciation for design and architecture. A hardworking, generous, and kind man who was admired by many for his calming and gentle nature. He was a great listener and his family’s voice of reason. You could always depend on him to be the peaceful mediator with his common-sense and practical approaches for navigating through life’s challenges.

Peter was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, dog dad and friend. A true outdoorsman, with a deep admiration for wild-life, nature, and ocean. As a young man he worked on lobster boat which fueled his lifelong love and appetite for seafood and a dream of retiring in his beloved state of Maine. A true history buff, music lover and competitive sports enthusiast. He loved coaching his daughters over the years in both softball and soccer- Never missing a game or horse show- Always the proudest papa cheerleader on the sideline. Peter himself enjoyed cross country skiing, calm water kayaking, golfing, and playing indoor racquetball. A gardener with a true green thumb. He had an exceptional aptitude for growing the most beautiful indoor and outdoor plants.

Nothing in this world made Peter happier than time spent with close family and friends or having the chance to sit harborside by the ocean.
