Mercedes S. (Santos) Rivera

WORCESTER - Mercedes S. Rivera, aka Mercie Rivera, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at the age of 83, at UMass Memorial – University Campus.

She was born in Manila, Philippines, to Miguel and Gregoria Santos. She was a graduate of University of Santo Tomas - Manila, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. She married Abundio Rivera on December 11, 1965, in San Marcelino Church, Manila. And their love bloomed with children, Bong Rivera and his wife Sally, Eric Rivera and his wife Michelle, Mitzie Javier and her husband Cesar, and Michael Rivera and his wife Bernadette; her grandchildren, Maisie, Kaisie, Mikee, Bernice, Migs, and Jacoby; Her brother, David Santos of Manila and sister, Rose Santos of Manila, Philippines; nephews and nieces.

Mercedes worked as an accountant at Global Trade Associates in Marlborough, MA. Displaying a wonderful relationship with her colleagues. Mercedes was a devoted mother who truly lived life to the fullest through helping others and through the simple pleasure of spending time with family and friends. She is very talented on playing the piano and would often entertain her guest with beautiful notes her hand makes. She would spend hours winning the slot machines at Foxwoods and enjoys scratch cards. And most especially, spoiling her grandchildren with love and stories. She was the most kind-hearted and generous individual, who selflessly put the needs of others before hers. Her servant heart and missionary spirit will be dearly missed.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Funeral services will be private and will be held at Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave. Family, Friends, and others whose lives Mercedes touched, please do take your time and pray for her eternal peace.
