WORCESTER – Mary “Mara” Frances (Dunlevy) Sindoni, 90, of Worcester, died Tuesday, December 3 at home.

She leaves a son Armand Ray Sindoni, his wife Juliana Avery, and their daughter Colette Twyla Sindoni of Gaithersburg, MD, and a brother, Harvey Risher Dunlevy of Durham, NC.   

She was predeceased by her daughter Alessandra Joy Sindoni, her sister Marcia Jean (Dunlevy) Jones, and her former husband Victor Alexander Sindoni.  She was born in Brighton, MA, daughter of Risher A. and Frances A. (Ray) Dunlevy.  She earned a B.A. from Swarthmore College, an M.A. from Boston University in Musicology, and an M.M. in Vocal Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music.

During her career as a singer, she soloed with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Worcester Orchestra, and both the Melrose Symphony and the Cape Ann Symphony.  Mary also created a broad range of recitals (and lecture-recitals), from art songs by Russian and Jewish Women and to Kurt Weill, as well as performing opera with various New England opera companies.  She also made recordings of songs by Alma Mahler and other women composers.

As a voice teacher she taught for many years at the Performing Art School of Worcester (PASOW), Anna Maria College, and Doherty High School, along with private lessons for several dedicated and talented voice students.   

Those who swam at the Brookline Swimming Pool in the 80s and 90s (and other pools in Mass) will remember her long backstroke arms and steady pace.

Funeral services will be private and in the care of Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave.
