Mary Randell Obituary

WORCESTER – Mary A. (Smith) Randell, 92, of Worcester, passed away peacefully June 6, 2025 at her beloved home surrounded by her family. Born in Worcester Mary was the daughter of Harold D. and Catherine M. (Boyle) Smith.  She graduated from St. Peter’s High School and was a lifelong resident of Worcester.

She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Bernard C. Randell, a brother, Harold D. Smith Jr and his wife Eleanor, and a sister, Margaret Handlin and her husband Edward.

She leaves four children: Robert and Joann Randell of Warwick, NY, James and Jane Randell of Paxton, MA, Paul and Joyce Randell of Paxton, MA, Maryjo Randell and Kenneth Loehle of Worcester, MA; her nine grandchildren, Matthew Mysliwicz, Caitlyn Kewriga, Nicole Mendicino, and Gabrielle, Molly, Hailey, Timothy, Taylor, Jaret Randell; and seven great-grandchildren Aubrey, Ayla, Abigail, Mavis, Nora, Jay, and Lucy. She leaves many nieces and nephews.

Mary was a secretary in the Nutrition Department at Fairlawn Hospital.  What Mary valued most was her family, friends and faith. She was truly one of the kindest people you could meet. She enjoyed spending time with family and had a positive influence on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the beach, family events, and was always up for an adventure.    She was a longtime member of Christ the King Church and its Women’s Guild.  She was dedicated to her Catholic faith.  Being a mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother were her biggest joys in life. 

The family would like to thank the staff of VNA Hospice Care, Reliant Geriatric Program and caregivers Nicole, Caitlyn, Sharon and Elizabeth. Their compassion and support were outstanding.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester, with a Mass at 11:00 am in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. Worcester, MA.  Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held before Mass on Wednesday 8:30am -10:30am at the Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Avenue Worcester.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the KeepSmilin4Abbie Foundation (keepsmilin4abbie.org) to fund research to detect early signs of anaphylaxis and enable early intervention of allergy reaction.
