Marie-Rose M. (Ferrand) Hamel

WORCESTER – Marie-Rose M. (Ferrand) Hamel, 91, of Barre, formerly of Moore Ave, Worcester, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at St. Mary Health Center, 39 Queen St, Worcester.

Her husband of 46 years, Joseph A. Hamel, died in 1994.  Her son Gerald Hamel died on January 18, 2016.  She leaves two sons, Alfred J. Hamel and his wife Rebecca of Barre, and Philip L. Hamel and his wife Diane of Princeton; two daughters, Patricia M. Hamel of Barre and Claire A. Frontil and her husband Jean of Bretigny-sur-Orge, France; a daughter-in-law, Donna L. (Stewart) Hamel of Worcester, a brother, Henri “Riton” Ferrand of France, 13 grandchildren, Catherine, Marc, Big Joe, Julie, Little Joe, Chris, Laura, Phil, Elizabeth, Allison, James, Jackson and Jarrett; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  A sister, Therese Taroni, predeceased her. She was born in Paris, France, daughter of Louis and Magdeleine (Bourges) Ferrand and lived in Worcester for over 60 years. 

Marie-Rose was a WWII War bride, she met her husband in Paris in 1945.  She was member of Notre Dame Church and Le Cercle Jeanne Mance.  She was a teacher at Holden schools, she worked at White City CVS and Ulian’s Clothing Store at the Worcester Center Galleria.  She enjoyed making jewelry, was a gourmet cook, enjoyed knitting, sewing and hosting parties. 

Funeral services will be private. Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, is in care of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Development Office, MAB Community Services, 200 Ivy St, Brookline, MA 02446.
