Marie Karaguesian Obituary

MIAMI, FL – Marie “Mimi” Karaguesian, 96, formerly of Worcester for 57 years, passed on peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Miami, Florida.

She will rest in Worcester with her husband of 26 years, Baghdassar “Baghdig" Karaguesian, who passed in 1984.  She leaves their beloved son, Jack Karaguesian, and his wife, Jodie Breece, of Miami; a sister, Huguette Cordahi of Cairo, Egypt; two nephews, Pierre Chamaa and Jean-Claude Chamaa; a niece Nadine Chamaa; and many cousins, in-laws, and close friends.  She was predeceased by her sister Aimée Ezzat.

She was born in Alexandria, Egypt, daughter of Georges Cordahi and Louise Khayat.  She and her sisters lost their parents early and were raised by nuns and family until they were of age.  Mimi recalled the bombing of Alexandria during World War II as the nuns sheltered her and Hughette.  Through friends in Cairo, Mimi met Baghdig, who was also orphaned and raised by family, and they married in 1958.  Seeking a better life for their son Jack, they left Egypt and came to the U.S. in 1966, where they worked at humble, physically demanding jobs to ensure Jack’s success.  The photo of Mimi you see here was taken on Jack’s law school graduation day.

Mimi was beloved by all who knew her, including her own dear family, in-laws, upstairs and down-the-street neighbors, co-workers, and even friends she met in the grocery store.  As life-long friends and family members raised their own children and grandchildren, and as they needed help later in life, Mimi was always there to lend them a hand, feed them something special from her kitchen, and lighten their load with laughter.

A private burial will be held at Hope Cemetery.  Local arrangements are in the care of Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester, Massachusetts.
