CHARLTON - Marianne G. (Charbonneau) Chene, 85, of 3 Shore Road, Cranberry Lake, Charlton Depot, died yesterday in her home.
She leaves her husband of 65 years, Marcel G. Chene; two daughters, Odette C. Gilmartin of Lochmont, N.Y., and Therese J. Lussier of Warren, Ohio; a son, Alfred B. Chene of Charlton; three brothers, Alfred Charbonneau of Worcester, Philip Charbonneau of Northboro and Clement Charbonneau of Vista, Calif.; a sister, Juliette Warren of Northboro; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Three brothers predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Hermenegilde and Maria (Limoges) Charbonneau, and lived in Worcester before moving to Charlton 31 years ago. She graduated from the former Classical High School, Worcester, in 1926.
Mrs. Chene was co-owner of the former Flavor Seal Co. in Cherry Valley from 1933 to 1946. She then was co-owner of the former Pleasant Street Fish Market, Worcester, and later vice president of the former Land and Sea Foods Inc., Worcester, retiring in 1962.
She was a member of Charlton Historical Society, Charlton Garden Club and St. Joseph's Church; and a former member of Cercle Jeanne Manse and Alliance Francaise, both of Worcester. She corresponded with local servicemen during World War II.
The funeral will be held Friday from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 38 Worcester Road. Burial will be in West Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church, 39 Worcester Road, Charlton, 01508.
