WORCESTER – LuWanda Mae (Banks) Cheney, 83, of Worcester, died on Monday, June 26, 2023, at UMass Memorial – University Campus.
She leaves four sons, Joseph Daniel Bushnell and his wife Heather of Florida, Ronald Steven Bushnell of MA, Bruce Charles Fenton and his wife Carolann of NH, and Christopher Robert Cheney and his wife Lina of CA; three daughters, Crystal Kay Zanic of MA, Betti Lorene Harvey and her husband Ron of Virginia, and Ashley Lynn Cheney of MA; a sister, Sydni Hardy of Nevada; multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Gwen Krewson. She was born in Dayton, Washington, daughter of Merl Deloss Banks and Betty (Overbay) Petit. She graduated from Long Beach City College in 1967.
LuWanda was the author of several books, Bean Soup, Proud and Gentle Folk, Splintered, On Her Feet and Secrets. She was the founder of Bronze Goose Publishing. She was previously a stockbroker and VP at Atlantic Financial. She enjoyed leading her book clubs and offering advice to new authors. She was a former Girl Scout leader and a former model, offering her the opportunity to meet Johnny Cash! LuWanda will be missed by many.
