WORCESTER – Johannes “Jan” Josephus Degoeij, 77, of Worcester, died Friday, September 23, 2022 at St. Mary Health Center, 39 Queen St. 


He leaves his wife of 17 years, Muriel (Samtjoe) Degoeij; two sons, Rojan Degoey of Baltimore, MD and Godfried Degoey of Oakton, VA; a brother Hans de Goeij of Haarzuilens, Utrecht, The Netherlands; and a sister Annie van Wijk of Haarzuilens, Utrecht, The Netherlands; 3 grandchildren, Pilar Degoey, Brice Degoey and Ethan Degoey.  He is predeceased by two brothers, Jaap de Ggoeij and Wim de Goeij.  He was born in Haarzuilens, Utrecht, The Netherlands, son of the late Willem and Anna (Vernooj) de Goeij.  He has lived here since 1973.


Johannes was a Missionary for the Unification Church.  He also worked as a graphics specialist for the Washington Times Newspaper.  He enjoyed doing his job.He also enjoyed reading and was interested in history and geography. 


A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 29 from 10:30 am until noon at Rice Funeral Home 300 Park Ave.  Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.
