WORCESTER – J. Melville “Mel” Capps, 64, of Worcester, formerly of Framingham and California, died Friday, December 19, 2025 at home, following an illness.
He leaves this world with few belongings, but a wealth of stories about him from the circle of friends he made at High Mowing School, where he attended high school, and the communities where he lived in the Metro Boston region, Nashville, California most recently Worcester, with his friend Shaun Wallace. He was born in Nashville, TN, son of the late Dr. J. Melville Capps Sr. and Carolyn Louise (Zachary) Capps. He graduated from Western State College of Law in Irvine, CA.
Mel practiced law for several years. He later worked as a technician at IPG Photonics Laser Manufacturing. He previously was a classroom training instructor, teaching basic computer literacy to adult students who had suffered work-related injuries and needed to be trained for a new occupation.
He was a Blues and classic rock guitarist, a fan of ancient megalithic sites, pre-dynastic Egyptian rock drilling and cutting technology, artifact evidence (e.g. “core #7”) (No aliens involved.), and friend of cats.
Funeral services are private and in the care of Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester.
