WORCESTER – George M. Kelley, 75, of Worcester, died unexpectedly Sunday, November 27, 2022 at home.
He leaves his wife of 37 years, Elise A. Jacques, MD; a daughter, Michele J. Shimizu-Kelley and her husband Pedro Shimizu Costa of Worcester; a sister, Marguerite Sullivan and her husband Robert of Kennebunkport, ME; a grandson, Luca Shimizu-Kelley; a sister-in-law, Michele Jacques, SSA of Worcester; a brother-in-law, Robert P. Jacques and his wife Francene of Shrewsbury; three nephews, Robert Sullivan, his wife Mary and their family of Michigan; Robert Jacques of Shrewsbury, and Daniel Jacques and his family of Holden. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Annelise, in 1988. He was born in Lawrence, MA, son of Ambrose R. and Marguerite R. (Ripcoe) Kelley. He graduated from Acadia University of Nova Scotia and received a Master of Education from University of New Hampshire.
George was a mathematics professor at Daniel Webster College and Anna Maria College. For many years he spent his summers teaching sailing in Kennebunkport, ME. He served 4 years in the U.S. Coast Guard and another 20 years in the Coast Guard reserves.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a good friend to many. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, painting, and being the designated family dog walker.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. Visitation will take place from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at the Church. Burial with military honors will be at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory can be made to the Marie Anne Center (236 Lincoln Street, Worcester, MA) or the Salvation Army Massachusetts Division.
