Gabriel M. LaPointe, 73, formerly of 58 Woodland St., died Wednesday night in Stonehouse Nursing Home, Stonehouse Hill Road, Holden.

He leaves his former wife, Evelyn D. (Babin) LaPointe; five sons, Adrien J. LaPointe in California, Richard F. LaPointe of Auburn, Normand J. LaPointe of West Hartford, Conn., Ronald F. and Charles M. LaPointe, both of Worcester; a brother, Marc Andre LaPointe of Key Largo, Fla.; five sisters, Theresa Poirier of Holden, Carmen Mathieu and Martha O'Brien, both of West Boylston, Gertrude Henault of Oakdale and Jacqueline Langlois of Cherry Valley; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Another son, Roger F. LaPointe of Worcester, died in 1985. He was born in Garthby, Quebec, Canada, son of Alfred and Mary (Lemay) LaPointe, and lived here most of his life.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asian-Pacific theater. Mr. LaPointe was an engineer for several area companies, most recently R&A Machine Co., retiring in 1983. He achieved more than 40 mechanical patents in his name. After he retired, he was a consulting engineer for several companies. Mr. LaPointe was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church.

The funeral will be held tomorrow from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church, 53 Illinois St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
