Frank Vietze Obituary

WEST BOYLSTON – Frank Albert Vietze, 88, of Worcester, formerly of Fremont and Grand Rapids, Michigan, died Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Knollwood Nursing Center, West Boylston.

He leaves his wife of nearly 64 years, Barbara (Bower) Vietze, a daughter, Elizabeth Vietze and her husband David Mangus of Paxton, two sons, Stephen Vietze and his wife Deanna of Maysville, KY, and Jonathan Vietze of Orange County, CA; four grandchildren, Brian and Kathryn Mangus, Sarah and Ethan Vietze; two brothers, Paul Vietze and his wife Loretta of Jacksonville, FL, Walter Vietze and his wife Ruth of Maine and Arizona, and a sister, Barbara Carroll of Foxborough, MA. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Peter Carroll.

He was born in Norwood, MA, son of Frank Henry Vietze and Ellen (West) Vietze.  He received a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University and a master’s from Hartford Seminary.  Frank and Barbara met while attending seminary and continued their partnership of service for 50 years of ministry and volunteer work.

Frank was a Pastor at the United Church of Christ serving Canterbury (NH) United Community Church, Bethany Congregational Church (Bridgeport, CT), Faith UCC (Cincinnati, OH) and First Congregational Church of Fremont (MI).

Frank actively practiced his faith through volunteering and was a board member of the Comstock Park Rotary, and Pilgrim Manor Nursing Care; in retirement, he and Barbara volunteered regularly at the East Church Food Pantry, the Interfaith Hospitality Network and read to children at a local elementary school.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and being outdoors, ice skating and was an avid Boston sports fan.

Funeral services will be private and in the care of Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester.  A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the “Feeding God’s Children Food Pantry”, East Church UCC, 1005 Giddings Ave SE, Grand Rapids MI 49506  https://eastchurchgr.org/give/.
