WORCESTER - Francis Murphy, 76, of Worcester, died Friday, June 5, 2026 at UMass Memorial, University Campus.


His wife of 35 years, Mary Phyllis (Booker) Murphy, died in 2008. He leaves three daughters, Francine and her husband Brian of Worcester, Marny and son-in-law Pat of Spencer, and Patti of Spencer and son-in-law Jim of Worcester; a son, Timmy and wife Gail of Oxford; his siblings James, Maureen, Martin, Catherine, Phyllis, and Maryann, all of Worcester; nine grandchildren, Timmy, Matthew and his fiancée Jenna, Emily and her husband Paulo, Nicholas, Cameron, Samantha, Madison, Morgan, Dylan; seven great-grandchildren, Zoey, Declan, Caiden, Logan, Liam, Tamina and Austin; many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his granddaughter Jessica and his brothers Richard, John, Harold and Michael. 


Francis was a sanitation worker for the City of Worcester. He was U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.  He enjoyed his family vacations at Old Orchard Beach.  He loved going to the store with his daughter Francine and buying scratch tickets, playing the numbers and Keno, listening to the oldies, and watching sports.  He was a former Cornhole champion in multiple tournaments and leagues with his son-in-law Brian and grandsons Nick and Matt. He was known by everyone on Houghton Street and loved by all.  He would say hello to anyone who walked by him.  His spaghetti and meatballs will be missed by everyone. He was one of a kind and always said what was on his mind. He was loved by everyone who knew him and will be missed every second of every day.


Calling hours will be held on Tuesday June 16, 2026 at Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Avenue Worcester, MA from 3 - 4:45 pm with Military Honors being rendered at 4:45 pm. Donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 3 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
