Francis L. Mitchell

MILLBURY – Francis L. Mitchell, 89, of Millbury, died Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves his wife of 65 years, Yvonne C. (Desrosiers) Mitchell, two sons, Paul F. Mitchell of Millbury and David J. Mitchell and his wife Susan of Arizona, his granddaughter Amanda Legere of Arizona, nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.  He was predeceased by three brothers, Walter, Edward, and Albert Mitchell, and four sisters, Gladys Boisseau, Margaret Wunschel, Alice Dudek and Carrie Pearson.  He was born in Millbury, son of Walter W. and Exilda (Webber) Mitchell and lived here most of his life.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Francis was a postal clerk for the U. S. Postal Service in Millbury for many years.  He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, the Dudley Gendron Post 414 American Legion, Sutton and B.P. Order of the Elks, Lodge 2118, Auburn.  He enjoyed Polka dancing and was an avid horseshoe player.

A calling hour will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Monday September 18, 2023 in Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester.  Burial will follow in St. Philip’s Cemetery, Grafton.   Arrangements are in the care of Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester and Turgeon Funeral Home, Millbury.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local food bank.
