HOLDEN – Evelyn L. (Spicer) Berry, 85, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Evelyn was born on March 8, 1936 in the coal mining town of McComas, West Virginia to Alvin T. and Ora D. (Gillenwater) Spicer. She grew up with many siblings and when she was 18 she met Roger. They were married May 29, 1954 and had five children together.
Her husband of 57 years, Roger E. Berry, died in 2011. She is survived by her daughter Sharon M. Lammi of Jefferson and sons Mark E. Berry and Timothy C. Berry, both of Jefferson; a brother, Eddie Spicer of W. Virginia; two sisters, Brenda Jones of Virginia and Lulu Arnold of Tennessee; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two sons, Ricky W. Berry and Anthony P. Berry, two brothers, J.C. and Jerry, and three sisters, Ruth, Jodi and Butchie.
Evelyn was a sweetheart from the South, where they will do anything for you. She was very much a family-oriented woman all her life. Her favorite pastimes were reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with and caring for the children in her very large, extended family.
Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care of Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (stjude.org).
