BARRE / SPENCER – Eleanor F. (Giard) O’Connor, 96, of Barre, formerly of Spencer, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the home of her great-nephew and niece, following an long illness.
Her husband, John J. O’Connor, died in 1970. She leaves a brother, J. Arthur Giard Jr of Gardner; several nieces and nephews, including her nephew Mark O’Connor and his wife Jill of Barre, and a great-nephew Aaron O’Connor and his wife Jackie of Barre, who have been her caregivers for the past year. She was predeceased by a sister, Helen B. Giard in 2010. She was born in Gardner, daughter of J. Arthur Giard Sr and Frances H. (Poliks) Giard. She lived in Spencer for many years.
Eleanor was a secretary and office manager at Commonwealth Gas for many years. She was the Registrar of Spencer for many years and was an usher at Tanglewood for over 50 years. She was a member of Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph’s Church, Worcester. She enjoyed staying active by being involved in Spencer’s town politics and was always up for a drive anywhere in the state to see a show or concert.
A calling hour will be held Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 10:00 am at Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 am. Burial will follow in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer.
