WEST BOYLSTON - Edgar A. Mathieu, 79, of 45 Lancaster St. died Tuesday night in Oakdale Nursing Home, 76 North Main St., Oakdale.

He leaves his wife, Carmen A. (LaPointe) Mathieu; a sister, Irene L'Heureux of Fairhaven; and several nephews and nieces.  Mr. and Mrs. Mathieu observed their 38th wedding anniversary in June.  He was born in Southbridge, the son of Alfred and Ida (Lanctot) Mathieu and lived in West Boylston since 1951. Previously, he lived in Shrewsbury.

Mr. Mathieu was a toolmaker and designer at the Worcester Pressed Steel Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1961. Previously, he worked at the American Wire and Steel Co. He was also a foreman for 24 months at Pearl Harbor Navy Yard and also at the Boston Navy Yard during World War II.  He graduated from the former Commerce High School in Worcester and Worcester Junior College.  He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and the Worcester Ski Club and a former member of the Wachusett Country Club and the Green Hill Golf Course.

The funeral will be tomorrow from the Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St.  Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.  Calling hours at the funeral home are 6 to 9 tonight.
