Corey E. Hughes

WORCESTER - Corey E. Hughes, 36 years old, passed away on or about August 27, 2023 unexpectedly at home.  Corey is survived by his son John Hughes.  He also leaves behind his aunt Deborah and uncle Elvin Dugan, Cheryl DiBenedetto and Brian Fontaine, Donald and Linda Hughes, Richard and Maryjo Benson, and Diane and Paul Cotter. he is also survived by his cousins, friends, and extended family.

Corey’s parents Robert E. and Judith A. (Benson) Hughes, his brother Justin Hughes predeceased him in 2023, 2005, 2022, respectively.  He is also predeceased by three uncles, Edward and Ronald Hughes, John DiBenedetto and his aunt Carol Hughes and uncle Gary Murray, his cousin Jennifer Murray, his maternal grandparents John and Margaret Benson, his paternal grandparents Hughie and Dorothy Hughes.

Corey was born in Worcester and attended Forest Grove Junior High and Burncoat High until he transferred to Worcester Vocational Trade School.  Corey studied to be an electrician at Worcester Trade.  After graduating, Corey had an electrician’s apprenticeship for many years.  Corey decided to change careers, he received his license from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural and became a landscaper for many, many years. He took much pride in his work as a landscaper.

Corey could walk into a room and light it up with his smile.  No matter what kind of day someone was having, he could brighten it for them.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, whether it was going to the beach, camping or just hanging out.  His greatest joy in life was spending all of the time he could with his best friend and son John.

A prayer service will be held at 4 pm on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester, followed by calling hours from 4:30 – 7:00 pm at the funeral home.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Corey E. Hughes Fund at Bank of America for his son John’s education.
