WORCESTER - Chester J. Babinski of Worcester, passed away Thursday, November 28, at Saint Vincent Hospital at the remarkable age of 102.
Chester was the devoted husband to Anna M. (Weber) Babinski for 63 wonderful years until her passing in 2021. He is survived by his children: Robert Babinski of Worcester, Edward Babinski and his wife Marilyn of Middletown, RI, and Joan Babinski and her partner Steve Person of Durango, CO, sister-in-law Joyce Weber, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his three brothers—Brother Edward Babinski of the Society of Jesus of New England, Henry, and Matthew Babinski—and his four sisters—Genevieve "Jane" Dziejma, Philomena Kubasiak, Helen Matys, and Sophie Babinski. He was the son of Apolinary and Michalina (Targonski) Babinski.
Born in Worcester, Chester graduated from Commerce High and Wentworth Institute of Technology. During his professional career, he was a mechanical designer at Coppus Engineering, Rice Barton Corporation, and Associated Engineers.
In his golden years, Chester found joy on the fairways and greens of Green Hill Golf Course, where he enjoyed golfing with Anna and the Senior Men’s League. He also loved traveling with Anna and the Greendale Men’s Club, sharing beautiful memories. Chester was always engaged with current events, passionately following local, national, and international politics, and financial markets, and cheering for his beloved Red Sox and Patriots. A true enthusiast of baseball history, he particularly loved the era from the 1920s to the 1950s.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 12 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales Street. The burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave. While there are no calling hours, those who wish to honor Chester’s memory may make memorial donations to the Worcester Senior Center, 128 Providence Street, Worcester, 01604, in lieu of flowers.
