Obituary

WORCESTER - Barbara “Barb” Tresback, 88, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at UMass Memorial – University Campus, after a brief period of declining health.

Barb leaves a sister Joyce and her husband Paul Leppanen of Holden; a niece Lynn and her husband Dino Lorusso of Rutland; three nephews: Craig Leppanen and his wife Tessa of Windham, NH; Scott Tresback and his wife Joanne of New Salem; Barry Tresback and his wife Karen of Baldwinville, and several grandnieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother Lawrence Tresback Jr.   Born in Gardner, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Helen (Joslyn) Tresback.  She was a graduate of Gardner High School.  

Barb was the leader of a Senior Girl Scout troop in addition to being a trainer and staff member of the former Gardner Girl Scout Council.  Barb then served in the capacity of a field executive, camp director, camping manager and most recently served as a membership manager of the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts (formerly Montachusett).  She then served on the GSCWM Board of Directors, the Alumnae, the Women of Distinction Committees and the 90th Camp Green Eyrie Reunion Committee.  Most recently Barb served as treasurer of the GSCWM Alumnae Adult Troop 2016.

Barb received the Thanks Badge 1 and the Thanks Badge 2 (Girl Scouting's highest adult awards) and in 2004 she was chosen to represent the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as our state's outstanding older worker.  She is the recipient of Experience Works Prime Time Award, honoring outstanding older workers from across the nation.  She received this recognition as part of a week-long trip to Washington, DC for all 50 chosen honorees from every state across the country.  Barb was an RSVP Volunteer (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Central MA) and a Worcester Senior Center member.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11 am at Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester, with a calling hour from 9:30 – 11:00 am.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Girl Scouts of Central and Western MA, 115 Century Drive, Worcester, MA 01606.
