WORCESTER – Barbara L. (Wasson) Bumpus, 89, long time resident of Framingham, MA, St. Petersburg, FL, Winterville, GA and recently of Sturbridge, MA, died Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
Her adoring husband, Warren Bumpus, died in 2001. Barbara leaves several children, James Gibney of Ashland, MA, Nancy Tibbo of Blackstone, MA, Susan Calef of Wales, MA, Warren Bumpus III of Colbert GA, Bonnie Walsh of Stow, MA, and Cathy Curboy of Sturbridge, MA, Joanne Larkins of Framingham, MA, and predeceased by Stephen Bumpus of Winterville, GA.
Barbara was a grandmother to 20: Jessica Scafoli, Benjamin Gibney (deceased), Miranda Leighton, Lauren Gibney, Matthew Tibbo (deceased), Jeffery Tibbo, Albert Calef III, Christopher Calef, Christine Bumpus, Warren Bumpus IV, Rendee Bumpus, Tammy Bumpus, Nichole Hellers, Rachel Hendrix, Timothy Walsh, Holly Fogarty, Erin Fogarty, John Fogarty, Kyle Larkins, and Alannah Larkins; and 17 great-grandchildren. Barbara also leaves her beloved sister, Rae Currier of Belmont, NH and is predeceased by her dear brother, Stephen Wasson, and loving sister, Jean Hoyt. She was born in Brockton, daughter of Walter and Lois (Howes) Wasson and traveled extensively throughout the eastern US as a child.
Barbara and Warren dedicated their lives to the protection and well-being of children at risk.
She was a director of social services at FCP Inc. in Massachusetts and Florida. She was a prominent member of the First United Methodist Church in Framingham. She enjoyed traveling, camping and hiking, scrap booking, reading, knitting and loved dogs.
Calling hours and a memorial service will be held Sunday, January 15th from 2:30-4:30 pm at Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Barbara Bumpus Memorial Fund for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Inc.
