NORTH BROOKFIELD – Athena K. Petsas, 39, of North Brookfield, died Friday, November 12, 2021 at Harrington Hospital, Southbridge.
She leaves her father, Konstantinos T. Petsas of North Brookfield; two brothers, Ted Petsas and his wife Courtney Rand, and Ardie Petsas and his wife Victoria Cosgrove. She is predeceased by her mother, Donna Petsas. Athena was born in Worcester and graduated from Doherty Memorial High School and Rob Roy Academy. A close confidant and friend, she’ll be remembered by her boyfriend Mason Bergeron, and by family and friends around the world.
Athena worked for a time as a hairdresser, then as a caregiver to her grandmother and later to her mother, and was committed to serving her family always; acting as cohost during holiday dinners, and both sous chef and taxi driver to her father. She had a beautiful and youthful spirit, was a lover of animals, especially birds and dogs, and was a fan of nostalgia, whether she was collecting memorabilia from childhood or preserving fond memories of times with family and friends.
Athena will be missed most for her affection and unique sense of humor, which always left you wondering whether she was laughing with you or at you. The memory of her rainbow bright hair will outshine future grey days without her. Some of what we loved about Athena feels hard to put into words, but the best explanation is that she had an infectious personality and made a lasting mark on everyone she met; from Cape Cod to California, and Florida to Kalamos, Greece.
Calling hours will be held at Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester from 4-6 PM on Tuesday, November 30th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Abbey’s House at https://abbyshouse.org/donate.
