Athanas Papa

WORCESTER – Athanas Papa, 89, of Worcester, died Friday, October 17, 2025 at Odd Fellows Home, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Andonia (Milio) Papa, three children, Renata Nikuli and her husband Alkion, Marina Levi and her husband David, and son Joan Papa and his wife Dhimitra; his seven grandchildren, Ariadhni and Yorgo Nikuli, Mosiel and Doreen Levi, Athanas, Mario, and Angjelo Papa; his brother-in-law Kosta Milio of Worcester; his sister-in-law Vera Papa of Albania; his two nephews Denis and Nikolla, his niece Kostandina, his niece Sophia and her husband Jerry Campbell, and their children Carina and Christopher; his additional family members Petro, Stefanoli, Dhimitri, Josifi, Vasili, Luan, and Gregor. He was predeceased by his brother Teodor Papa and sister-in-law Kassiani Milio. He was born in Kavaje, Albania, son of Nikolla and Fanije (Gjini) Papa and has lived here for 18 years.

Athanas served as a lawyer for the city of Kavaja, Albania. He was a devoted father and a steadfast source of love and support for his family. Deeply passionate about reading and writing, he valued education as a cornerstone of life and inspired those around him through his wisdom and storytelling. His profound respect and kindness toward others earned him the admiration of all who knew him.

A Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 11:30 am at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St, Worcester. A calling hour will be held at the cathedral from 10:30 – 11:30 am before the service. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St, Worcester, MA 01609.
