WORCESTER – Joseph O. Lupien, 79, of Worcester, died Friday, September 13, 2019 at home.
He leaves a nephew, Michael P. Hastings, his wife Diane of Boston, a niece, Christine A. Murphy and her husband Shawn of Quinebaug, CT; and several grand-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret M. “Peggy” Hastings in 2010. He was born in Worcester, son of Maurice and Margaret T. (Breen) Lupien and lived in Worcester most of his life.
Joseph last worked as an information attendant at Worcester City Hall. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. What was striking about Joe is that he spent most all of his time studying and supporting the arts, community organizations, historical preservation, and environmental programs. He donated everything he didn't absolutely need from his social security checks. There are many letters of thanks from dozens of organizations showing regular donations and volunteer work. In particular with Mechanics Hall, the Regional Environmental Council (Worcester). His high school scrapbook shows the same character. He was very active at St. Steven's High School and was president of St. Steven's Catholic You Council. You could say that Joe was a humble philanthropist.
Following cremation, burial with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 11, 2019 at St. John’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Worcester. Arrangements are in the care of Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester. Donations may be made in Joseph’s memory to Veterans, Inc., 69 Grove St, Worcester, MA 01605.
Donations to Regional Environmental Council (https://recworcester.kindful.com/) or Mass Audubon (https://www.massaudubon.org/) in lieu of flowers are most appreciated.
