WORCESTER – Gael A. Evans, 69, of Worcester, died Wednesday, September 5, 2018 in her husband’s arms and surrounded by her loved ones at St. Vincent Hospital.
She leaves her husband of 34 years, David A. MacComber; her mother, Bernice E. (Bastille) Evans of Shrewsbury; four brothers, Arthur H. Evans III and his partner Rose Palmieri of Waterloo, NY, George J. Evans and his wife Katherine, James E. Evans, and William G. Evans and his wife Joanne, all of Worcester; a sister, Bernice E. Howell of Raymond, NH; and several nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Arthur H. Evans, Jr. and Bernice Evans and has lived in Worcester all her life.
After graduation from Burncoat High School, Gael attained a BA Degree in English from Clark University and later achieved a Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of Rhode Island. Gael was a librarian at UMass Lamar Souter Library for 31 years (1973 – 2004). She also worked part-time at WPI Gordon Library for 21 years (1989 – 2010). She worked as a volunteer at the Suicide Prevention Crisis Center. Gael loved rabbits, she enjoyed life, would do anything for anybody and had a generous spirit. An avid researcher, she explored family genealogies dating as far back as William the Conqueror. She was passionate about her pet bunnies and supported rescue animal efforts. Wife, sister, daughter, friend – we will love you always and miss you forever.
The family plans a memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, 2pm at WPI, 100 Institute Rd, Alden building, Spaulding Hall (lower level). Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, is in care of arrangements.
