WORCESTER – Dr. Robert D. Ouellette, 87, of West Boylston, died Saturday, January 21, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves his wife of sixty years, Lucille M. (Dube) Ouellette; four sons, Paul and his wife Susie Ouellette of Marlborough, Ronald and his wife Trish Ouellette of Randolph, NH, Peter Ouellette and his former wife Sue of Barre, MA, Michael and his wife Michelle Ouellette of Oxford, MA; three daughters, Jeannine and her husband Michael Clemente of Rensselaer, NY, Dr. Ann Jones and her husband Stephen of Shrewsbury, MA, and Patti and her husband James Laughren of Chicago, IL; fourteen grandchildren, one great grandson and  many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother, Conrad Ouellette and a sister-in-law, Yvette Ouellette.  He was born in Fall River, son of Albert and Laura L. (Clouthier) Ouellette. He graduated from Assumption College in 1952, and Laval University Medical School, Quebec, CAN in 1958.

Robert was a dedicated husband, father and physician who had many hobbies and passions in life.  His medical career spanned nearly 40 years where he served as Chief of Anesthesia at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester, MA for 11 years.  Bob was active in many local, national and international medical societies including the Massachusetts Medical Society, the American Society of Anesthesiology and the International Association for the Study of Pain.

Robert served his country as a Captain in the US Army Reserves from 1958-1964.  His hobbies included sports, photography, and classical music.  He was an avid wine collector and educated many on the subject. He was the founder of the Worcester Wine Tasters and member of the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, where he served as a past Grand Officer and Grand Senechal of the Sous-Commanderie of Massachusetts Chapter.  Bob belonged to many fraternal organizations including the Knights of Malta, Harmony Club of Worcester, and the Holy Name Society to name a few. He was a patron of Assumption College and Trustee for almost 30 years.

The funeral mass will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10:00am at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Assumption College, 500 Salisbury St, Worcester. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum.  Calling hours are Friday, January 27 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Robert’s name to the Salmon VNA & Hospice, 37 Birch St, Milford, MA 01757 or the National Institute on Aging, Budget Office, Bldg 31, Room 2C06, 31 Center Drive, MSC 2292, Bethesda, MD 20892.
