Carmelo Fernandez Ortiz

WORCESTER – Carmelo “Robert” Fernandez Ortiz, 75, of Worcester, died Saturday, September 30, 2017 at UMass Memorial – University Campus, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 54 years Carmen (Diaz) Fernandez, a son, Rodolfo Fernandez and his wife Laura  Swain-Fernandez of Orlando, FL; two daughters, Virgen Ortiz and her husband Edwin of Worcester and Lillian Colón and her husband José of Worcester; seven grandchildren, Jason, James, Eric, Arin, Jessenia, Alejandre, and Joshua; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way.  He also leaves three brothers and two sisters.  He is predeceased by two brothers and one sister.  He was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, son of Benito and Lucila (Ortiz) Fernandez. 

Carmelo worked in plastics manufacturing.  He was the best husband and father, he was caring, loving and he did what he had to do for his family.  His family came first.  Everything he had belonged to whoever needed it.  He was always smiling and had a great attitude.

The funeral will be held Thursday, October 5, 2017 at All Faiths Cemetery, with a funeral procession leaving from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, at 9:30 am.  Burial will follow.  Calling hours are Wednesday, October 4 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
