Dr. Kannimangalam V. Viswanathan

September 7, 1935 ~ February 4, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

NORTHBOROUGH, MA  - Dr. K. V. Viswanathan, of Northborough, passed away at 2:46AM on Saturday, February 4, 2017.  He is survived by his wife Shyamala, son Rajan, daughter-in-law Raji and grandchildren Arjun and Aparna.  He passed away peacefully with his family. 

Born in a rural family, his upbringing laid the foundation for his successful life.  He did his Bachelors and Masters at Loyola College in Madras and his PhD from Bombay University.  He did his post-doctorate at Columbia University and was an assistant professor for 10 years at the same.    He was a dedicated husband for 53 years where he never left his wife for any periods of time; a rarity.  He was awarded the Binani Gold Medal in Metallurgy in India and also did critical research for the Bhabha Atomic Research Center in Bombay.  In the US he holds 7 patents with IBM in disk drive tribology, achieved retirement and finished his career at Maxtor.  His life in New York was marked with excitement in running a successful show in WKCR-FM where he met many luminaries like Pandit Ravi Shankar.  He was also involved within the Indian community for promoting arts and drama through music competitions and dramas as enacted in India.  His move to Boston resulted in the birth of grandchildren, who became the love of his life and also featured being the Chairman of the New England Hindu Temple. 

Calling hours are Monday, February 6th, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Avenue, Worcester MA.  A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 8th, 2017 at 10:00 am in the Ellen Rogers Kennedy Memorial Chapel at Rural Crematory, 180 Grove St, Worcester.  Cremation will follow.
