WORCESTER, MA – Conrad Real Caron, 88, of Worcester, MA died Sunday, May 13 at St. Francis Home.
He was born in Cap St. Ignace, Canada on Oct. 10, 1923, the son of Wilfrid and Marie-Rose (Fortin) Caron. He was educated in schools in Brunswick, Maine and lived in Albion, Rhode Island and Brunswick, Maine before moving to Worcester in 1956. In 1947 he married the former Irma Bernier of Topsham, Maine and celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in May 1987. Mrs. Caron died in 1989.
Mr. Caron is survived by a daughter Claudette and a granddaughter, Christine Gentesse, both of Worcester. He is also survived by a sister, Rolande Lavoie of Brunswick, Maine and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by six brothers, Rev. Gerard Caron, Roland, Amable, Bertrand, Adelard and Fernand Caron and eight sisters, Irene Fournier, Irma McCarthy, Valeda Caron, Marie Bérubé, Jeannette Painchaud, Armandine Doyon, Marie Laure Fournier and Simonne Deschenes.
Mr. Caron worked for 26 years for Heald Machine Co., retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Military Police Corps as a French interpreter in North Africa, and also serving in Italy from 1942 to 1945.
Mr. Caron was president of the Third Order of Mary of Worcester, He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church, its Sacred Heart Society, Altar Guild, past secretary of its St. Vincent De Paul Society and was a collector at Holy Name for 30 years.
A military graveside funeral service will be held Friday, May 18, 2012 at 11:30 am at St. John’s Cemetery in Brunswick, ME. There are no calling hours. Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave is directing arrangements.
