LEICESTER – Vito A. Capite, 88, of Leicester, died unexpectedly Friday, April 20 at UMass Memorial – University campus.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Ruth A. (Kittredge) Capite; a son, David and his wife Cynthia Capite of Paxton; two daughters, Deborah and her husband Paul F. Daly of Boiling Springs, SC, and Maryruth Capite-Allen and her husband Roosevelt Allen of Framingham; five grandchildren, Kara Wattenbarger of Cleveland, OH, Timothy Daly of Greenville, SC, Nicole Capite of Worcester, Andrew Capite of King of Prussia, PA, and Elizabeth Allen of Framingham; many nieces and nephews. Six brothers and one sister predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Mattia and Jenny (Sorvillo) Capite and lived in Leicester for many years.
Vito was a tile setter for V.A. Capite and Kesseli & Morse Company. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post 7556 in Rochdale, was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He founded the local high school age hockey program and coached in Leicester. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed Boston sports teams. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester, with a Mass at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Church, 1154 Main St, Leicester, Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
