June Frances Durnin

Worcester– June F. (Howard) Durnin, 81, formerly of Worcester and Leicester, died Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Holden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

She leaves four children: Donna M. D’Amato and husband Richard of Spencer, Howard W. Durnin and wife Deborah of Worcester, Stephen E. Durnin and wife Lisbeth of Port Orange, FL and Cynthia J. Groccia and husband Michael of Hudson, NH; seven grandchildren, Eric D’Amato, Lisa Wallwork and husband James, Laureen D’Amato, Perry Rushton, Jessica Adamowicz and husband Mark, Jennifer and Christopher Groccia; and six great-grandchildren, Berkeley, Chloe, Connor, McKenzie, Owen and Ruby. Her former husband, George W. Durnin, and a brother, Daniel F. Howard, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Francis E. and Mildred R. (Doyle) Howard.

June attended St. Stephens High School. June served as a member of the Civil Air Patrol before beginning her career as a line assigner for AT&T. After retirement, she worked in the cafeteria at the Jacob Hiatt School. She served as a Cub Scout den mother, and she belonged to the Red Hat Society. She was a member of Sacred Heart / St. Catherine’s Church. June enjoyed all forms of arts and crafts, and found her greatest pleasure in her role as “Mom”, “Grammy”, “Nana” and “Mimi”.

A Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart / St. Catherine’s Church, 596 Cambridge St, Worcester, will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 28, 2012. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester, is in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Resident’s Fund, 32 Mayo Drive, Holden, MA 01520 or the Notre Dame Hospice, 557 Plantation St, Worcester, MA 01605.
